Welcome to Hout Bay Forest School!

Our Hout Bay Mom and Tot Group offers parents and child minders the chance to bond with their little ones through nature based and child led play. This group is for little ones ages 2-4 and takes place in a safe and secure nature rich environment in Hout Bay.

Each Wednesday we meet in Hout Bay to explore our natural space.

We go on discovery walks, explore insects and their habitats, learn to work with simple tools, we engage with physical play, and we do lots of creative play. We always finish our session with some tea making together and reading a story before we go home.

Next term starts: 13th October – 3rd December (8 sessions)

Ages: 2-4 yrs old. Child accompanied by 1 care taker (mom, dad, grannies & nannies all welcome – but please always only 1 adult per child)

Time: 9:30-11:30
Days: Wednesday mornings

Location: Our Explorers Hout Bay Mom and Tot Group will be using a lovely green property on Main Road. The property is alongside the river towards the upper end of Main Road so offers lots of safe, secure and clean water play, it also has a beautiful garden with fruit trees and an inside space for when it’s needed.

About the Location

Hout Bay really is a special place for forest school style education — the area offers pine forest, an indigenous Afro-temperate forest, fynbos, streams, an estuary, a dynamic ever changing beach and large mountains all within a few kilometres of each other. All of this combined creates a vastly rich environment to inspire our weekly mom and tot nature play group.

Explorers – Hout Bay Mom and Tot Group Activities

Our weekly explorer sessions will include:

  • immersing ourselves in the natural environment surrounding our basecamp
  • exploring and learning through play and child-led activities.
  • free and child led play, we encourage kids to explore in the natural environment,
  • allowing little ones to discover what sparkles in their hearts and their imaginations.
  • risky play observation and guidance – supporting parents in what that looks and feels like
  • creativity based, open ended craft activities
  • every session ends with circle time, tea making and sharing, and reading a story before we get ready to go back home.
  • we also have a small indoor play space for truly foul weather – but we do believe there is no such thing as bad weather – only bad clothes! Even in winter, when possible we like to play and explore outdoors!

PLEASE NOTE: ONE ADULT PER KID BOOKING. IF SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS NEED TO BE MADE PLEASE CHAT WITH OUR FACILITATOR DURING BOOKING.
