About the Location
Hout Bay really is a special place for forest school style education — the area offers pine forest, an indigenous Afro-temperate forest, fynbos, streams, an estuary, a dynamic ever changing beach and large mountains all within a few kilometres of each other. All of this combined creates a vastly stimulating environment for nature based play.
Hout Bay Forest School Sessions:
We’ll spend all 8 sessions per term exploring Hout Bay’s surrounding habitats at locations like:
- De Hel,
- Constantia Neck,
- Ruyteplaats Forest on Suikerbossie,
- Boskykloof,
- Orangekloof,
- Baviaanskloof waterfall
- Myburgh Ravine etc.
- And various other richly diverse nature spots for which we’ll send more information on in that week during the term
In these types of locations we’ll explore forest art construction, den building, mushroom foraging, engaging with fynbos, understanding local eco systems, wildlife, fauna and flora exploration and much much more.
Hout Bay Forest School Session Activities:
At these various beautiful locations, we’ll not only explore our surroundings but also get stuck in learning skills like:
- whittling and tool use
- fire building and cooking
- creative activities making use of clay, craft supplies etc.
- movement based sessions
- and of course river and water based activities, experiments and learning through play
